Approximately 80 yards heavy worsted weight yarn (like Noro Kureyon)

1 set US 8 (5.0mm) double pointed needles, or size to get gauge

Gauge: 4 st/inch

Make 2 the same

Cast on 28 stitches, divided over four needles.

Join and work in the round in k2 p2 rib for 16 rounds.

Next round: *K2tog, k5, repeat from * to end of round. 24 stitches remain.

Knit the next 3 rounds.

Start thumb gusset:

Round 1: K1, place marker, make a stitch by picking up a loop between the stitch you just knit and the next stitch and knitting into that loop, k1, make a stitch, place marker, knit to the end of the round.

Round 2: Knit

Repeat these two rounds until you have 11 stitches in between the markers. Knit 3 rounds further.

Next round: K1, remove marker, place the next 11 stitches on a length of yarn, cast on 2 stitches using the backwards loop method, remove marker, knit to the end of the round.

Knit 4 more rounds, decrease 1 stitch over the 2 cast-on stitches over the thumb-hole on the last round.

Work k2 p2 rib for 8 rounds and bind off.

Thumb: place 11 stitches from holder on dpns and knit across them, pick up 4 stitches from the cast-on stitches divide stitches evenly over dpns.

Next round: k 11, k2tog twice

Next round: k1, p1 to last 2 stitches, p2tog

Work in k1 p1 rib for 3 more rounds, then cast off in rib.
