Note: These mitts
fit a woman's size medium hand Approximately 80
yards heavy worsted weight yarn (like Noro Kureyon) 1 set US 8 (5.0mm)
double pointed needles, or size to get gauge Gauge: 4 st/inch Make 2 the same Cast on 28 stitches,
divided over four needles. Join and work in the
round in k2 p2 rib for 16 rounds. Next round: *K2tog,
k5, repeat from * to end of round. 24 stitches remain. Knit the next 3
rounds. Start thumb gusset: Round 1: K1, place
marker, make a stitch by picking up a loop between the
stitch you just knit and the next stitch and knitting
into that loop, k1, make a stitch, place marker, knit to
the end of the round. Round 2: Knit Repeat these two
rounds until you have 11 stitches in between the
markers. Knit 3 rounds further. Next round: K1,
remove marker, place the next 11 stitches on a length of
yarn, cast on 2 stitches using the backwards loop
method, remove marker, knit to the end of the round. Knit 4 more rounds,
decrease 1 stitch over the 2 cast-on stitches over the
thumb-hole on the last round. Work k2 p2 rib for 8
rounds and bind off. Thumb: place 11
stitches from holder on dpns and knit across them, pick
up 4 stitches from the cast-on stitches – divide
stitches evenly over dpns. Next round: k 11,
k2tog twice Next round: k1, p1
to last 2 stitches, p2tog Work in k1 p1 rib
for 3 more rounds, then cast off in rib.
